Contender Bush Green Garden Bean

SKU: 3030791155 days — 'Contender' is extremely early, very dependable and prolific. It produces long, round to slightly oval pods that are medium green and about six inches long at maturity. They are tasty fresh out of the garden or can be canned or frozen. It is resistant to bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) as well as powdery mildew. It does well in cool, short climates, as well as in warm, humid climates.
Bred as a stabilized cross between 'Commodore', 'Streamliner', and 'United States 5 Refugee' by the Southeastern Vegetable Breeding Laboratory, Charleston, South Carolina. 'Contender' was released in 1949 with the cooperation of the Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida Agricultural Experiment Stations.[1] Each ounce contains approximately 60 seeds.
Sow seeds 1½ inches deep, every two to three inches. Bush-type beans do not require support.
Pick the pods while young as they are more tender and succulent and less likely to be stringy.
