'Coroja', pronounced core-ro-ho, is an Oriental-type tobacco that possesses a bit of spice and was historically used for cigar wrapper leaves. It originated in Cuba but was abandoned there due to its susceptibility to disease. It is reportedly still being grown in Honduras and in Western Kentucky. The plants grow up to three to four feet tall when topped, develop dark pink flowers, with leaves that reach eight inches wide by fifteen inches long.
'Coroja' was donated into the USDA's tobacco collection on October 22, 1975 by the USDA, ARS Plant Industry Maryland Station and found in Cuba. Our seed originated from USDA accession number PI 405643 and was sent to us by David Pendergrass from Tennessee. Each packet contains about 100 seeds.
