Punche is one of the earliest maturing "rustica" varieties at just 35 days. It is a good choice for growers with a very short season or as a late season crop. It can be planted out earlier than many other tobaccos and mature plants are frost tolerant. As with other rustica varieties, it has a very high nicotine content.
The history of punche tobacco is difficult to trace, but we know that it was grown by the Pueblo people of Taos and other northern New Mexico areas, and was used in barter and for ritualistic purposes. The name punche probably is derived from the latin word "pumila" which means dwarf.
It is a very easy tobacco to grow; very hardy in the seedling stage, rarely succumbing to some of the problems that other tobaccos have. Surprisingly quick growing and can readily reseed in the garden, even becoming a bit weedy. Strikingly beautiful bluish colored plants.
Packet contains about 100 seeds.
YES! This plant even grows well 140 air miles South of the Arctic Circle! Far Out! Thank you Victory Seeds.
Super impressed by seed viability. got my order Thursday today is Tuesday I planted a few test seeds they popped up very quickly so the next day I planted a whole tray. I have seeds two days old rooting and seeds a few days old with nice leaves, looking green and happy. Led light, humidity dome, seed tray, bottom tray 1/2" water, mist every 12 hrs. What I researched said you cant have it too wet for germination. Beat barnett special and madole to germination by three days atleast cause the first test seeds are just now rooting for those varieties, but I kinda of expected these results as punche is a fast growing variety?, just not the way it happened so fast.
I grow this variety in my DWC hydroponic system. The results I have gotten are incredible. The pictures of the Punche' on this site make the plant look small. So, I figured since it was a small plant, it would be indoor friendly. However, the plants I have gotten are mammoths. I currently have some fermenting and it smells great.
Title pretty much sums up the review. I decided to begin my journey in tobacco with a wild variety for ease of growth in my temporate zone. Punche is known to handle frost and can possibly self-seed, making this a great commodity plant for those with the prepper mentality like me.
