100 days — 'Ruby' onions have a deep globe shape, are medium large in size, and are a deep-red color with firm, pungent flesh. If properly cured and stored in a cool, dark, dry location 'Ruby' is an excellent keeper as a storage variety. Bred by John Brozdowski, a private breeder from Pine Island, New York it was introduced commercially in 1964 by Asgrow Seed Company. 'Ruby' is an intermediate day variety.

Red onions are rich in the beneficial carotenoid lycopene, which are effective at scavenging the molecules that have been linked to cancer-causing free radicals. Bright red vegetables are also shown to be useful in increasing blood flow and circulation which is beneficial for heart and lung health.
