'Samsun'
Nicotiana tabacum L
[ Approximately 100 seeds per packet ]

'Samsun' is a Turkish-type tobacco that has been historically used as a cigarette and pipe blending tobacco and is prized for its rich aroma and flavor. It has an interesting plant and leaf structure exhibiting a single stalk that is very uniform and erect.

Originally from the region of Turkey by the same name, our 'Samsun' seed stock was from the USDA Nicotiana Collection, accession number PI 552747.

Tobacco plants are very interesting, ornamental, and have many uses apart from consumption. Tobacco seeds are not classified as tobacco products. We promote the cultivation of tobacco plants, but we do not promote the use of tobacco products.
Tobacco seeds are tiny and look like dust, but each one has the potential to quickly grow into a huge tobacco plant. They need light to germinate. Sprinkle the seeds onto the surface of a moist and sterile seed starting mix. Do not cover the seeds. They also must never be allowed to dry out, so they are frequently (but gently) watered using a mist from a spray bottle. While waiting for germination, it can help to cover them with some kind of plastic sheeting to help hold moisture.

Once tiny seedlings emerge, you can pick them out one by one and move them into individual cells. Very lightly fertilize and never allow the potting soil to dry out. Within 6 weeks it'll be ready to plant in the garden. Wait until all risk of frost is over before planting outdoors.

★☆☆☆☆ Bad Batch of Seeds
By SFL Grower (South Florida) on June 30, 2023

Not sure if the batch of seeds I received were harvested too early or were old. The majority were very light in color and only 12/50 germinated. Most suffered from an issue where the seed casings stayed on the cotyledons and killed seedlings unless manually removed. The 7 that survived until transplant grew very slowly and 5 were growing with deformed leaves. As of this review only 2 have survived and stand 12 inches tall, Im hoping I can babysit them until they flower. Note: The Florida Big Cuban and Black Mammoth I bought from here had no issues. The seeds were dark, they all germinated without issues, were healthy after transplant, grew to over 6 feet, flowered and were fully harvested in 5 months.
